How is the ankle support on these? I had the 5Ks for about a season and the reason I sold them was because the ankles became really flimsy. Bad enough where I wasn't getting much ankle support at all and I had to use a ton of tape like Biron.

Bought a pair for one of my kids...one thing that didn't seem to get mentioned in the thread...yes it apprears they are pretty much the 5K boot, but....loooks like they have the regular 3k runner. Blade doesn't say 'stainless' on it like the 5Ks do.

ok, I can fix that, I have my 9k's and can swap steel if I need to, that or just buy another pair of the good blades and replace the cheap ones on them.... so the boot is basically a 5k ? if so thats fine, I know it will serve its purpose.

I just want to be sure of it.

Well...he came out of a pair of smaller 3K's and didn't even remember he changed skates the first time out. Definitely have more padding in the ankle area than a 3k but I don't see any difference other than the color graphic and runner from the 5k.

Fair enough, I will use my 9k's for games only, just need another pair of skates for coaching right now.
what does your son consider the comfort of these ?

better than the 3k ?

Hmmm...not sure he would be a useful indicator for you. He doesn't seem to notice any difference and typically, at 13 most kids don't really need all kinds of foot support the way old guys like me do. But it's obvious the 5K and Talon has more beef in the ankle area and looks a touch better put together.

How good is the durability? And how well do they stay sharpened? Because my ccm tacks seem like I need to get them sharpened every second icetime.

Da Difference

Apparently the blades are Carbon and the white cowling, compared to the regular 5K's.
