Brian's Dx2 Pro Glove Review

Let me start off by saying that this is my first real review so go easy on me

I recently received my new Brian's Dx2 Pro Glove. I have had 3 previous Brian's gloves, my last one being a Dx2 (07 model) Intermediate. I can't say that I will ever wear any other glove other than a Brian's, but we will obviously have to see. On a side note there aren't many stores around here where I can try things on. Now lets cut to the chase...

I custom ordered this in the colors of white/royal/orange to match my team's jerseys for the upcoming season. It took about 6 weeks from placing my order until it found its way to my doorstep, pretty quick in my opinion. I requested extra foam in the palm because I received numerous stingers in my last glove, and I was determined to make sure that it will not happen in this one. I had a choice to add 1/8" or 1/4" extra foam, so I asked for 1/8" extra, not going overboard.

Let me say that I now know that stock senior gloves have much more padding in the palm than intermediate gloves. Not knowing this beforehand, I think it is safe to say that I would have been okay without the extra foam.

First impressions:
1. MY NEW GLOVE IS HERE!
2. Man, this thing is stiff!- I have small/weak hands so it is hard to close, I guess it will just take some time to break in, and the extra foam may not have been necessary
3. The quality of the thing is fantastic, not a stitch out of place.

I have used this once so far and all I can say is I need to break it in more. It feels a bit different from the 07 model, but the break in the glove and the main features are pretty much the same. I didn't notice any difference in my ability to puckhandle with the beefed up palm. The backhand opens up completely to allow for easy drying, and there are many straps to customize the tightness of it.

Now what you really wanted to see:

It has been a pleasure talking with Ben Ward who helped me out with my decisions. He was friendly and very easy to talk to, and also updated me from time to time on what stage the glove was in. I give this glove a 9.9/10 and I am completely satisfied with it. I hope it lasts me for a long time, and now it's time to break it in!

I will post updates once i get it on the ice a few more times. Feel free to ask questions.

The Catcher looks great. I am suprised you went with the beefier palm. My son and I saw Ben yesterday because he is an loyal Brian's glove and blocker user. my son currently has a non-pro spec beast catcher. Ben reccomended not going with the beefed up palm even though my son will be playing college hockey next season. I thought the stock palm was already stiff so I can imagine that yours must be bulletproof. Good luck with the break-in.

PS my son went with the thief catcher and blocker in white and Carolina (tarheel) blue.

Thanks! And if I had a chance to try on the stock glove, I probably wouldn't have went with the beefed palm. I didn't really realize that the senior glove was that much of a step up from the int. version. Oh well I still love it!

If it's an issue i wonder if Ben can easily remove a layer from the palm for you. And by the way, when we were there we saw Manny Legacys catcher. He has it made with LESS than the stock palm padding. It shut like a dream but i'm suprised he doesn't want more protection.

I will have to contact him about that, but I hope it doesn't end up being too much of a problem.

And that is very odd with Legacys catcher. Never heard of anything like that before!

It's possible Legacy is going to use it for games. I heard some goalies have a game catcher and a practice catcher. The practice one has more protection. Perhaps lesser protection gives him a better feel for the puck in games.

Are the Brian's gloves designed to be skate baked to help the break in? That might help you, if they're designed for it, that is.

I could see why he'd want a thinner palm, I'm sure it would be easier to catch with, assuming the puck hits the pocket. Being a professional, I'd wager he doesnt get hit in the palm much, I could be wrong though. . .

I know one goalie by the name of Carey Price who does this, but I would think he would have a "trippile pro palm" for practices and a "single pro palm" for games . I wouldn't expect that he would have less than stock, that just sounds crazy to me. And yes, I would hope that he doesn't get hit in the palm often.

Also isn't Brian's owned by Vaughn? Not sure if this really matters but Vaughn gloves are meant to be baked... I'm not sure if that makes it so Brian's are too...

Thanks man, I like how it came out as well. It is still very stiff so I am going to try using the steam method and possibly putting it in the oven. Ben Ward said I can stick it in the oven at 160 degrees for around 15 minutes and it will help soften up the foams. I will let you know how it works out.

I currently use a Brian's Thief with Legacy specs (Legacy basically has a modded Outlaw per Ben). The thing closes like a dream compared to stock. No stingers as of yet.
