The irony to me is that soccer is like hockey is so many ways.
The same garbage you spew about soccer is the spewed by hockey haters all the time.
You can spend your summer watching David Ortiz adjust his cup. That's fine by me.
I'll spend my summer watching Ronaldinho answer the immortal question: Why do they call it the beautiful game?

It's a tough challenge, I'm from Mexico, but I live in El Paso, Texas, I play roller hockey (hey roller is better than nothing, probably I will play ice next season). And is packed of baseball and soccer fields around here, everyone plays either soccer or baseball/softball, and is hard to make someone go from any sport to hockey. I don't care about Basketball or the NBA, or football and the NFL I just want to play hockey and unfortunately the hockey program loss some memebership here in the last months, and people is afraid to change and play hockey, bunch of...
I hope this get better or I will have to move north

I don't hate the game. I hate the repeated failed attempts to make us care about it. Can you really believe that hockey and soccer are similar? That is funny.
You cannot compare it to baseball. Maybe "pro" soccer is on par with Independent League Baseball, but even that is a stretch.
Maybe the problem with soccer is that it's a game and not a sport? Funny how you can name a young first baseman/ DH on one MLB team but I couldn't tell you one "pro" soccer player on any team on any part of the planet.
You know, I couldn't tell you one pro team in soccer. Are there any? Or is it only an olympic sport in America?

I wanna know who decided that in the first place. Who said "Let's put 12 inches in a foot"?
I'd much rather watch soccer than baseball. Baseball is a BORING sport, I have a really hard time watching it and a worse time playing it. Soccer on the other hand...

Just because you're ignorant when it comes to soccer, doesn't mean that everyone is like that.
And soccer is like hockey in that it is and probably always will be a niche sport.
There are diehard soccer fans that love the game and can't understand why it isn't bigger in North America. Just like there are diehard hockey fans that can't understand why it's not bigger here.
The biggest issue with pro soccer in North America is the fact that the best players in the world play their club soccer in Europe. Without the best club league in the world, it will be hard to get super big time exposure in the US.
But, worldwide soccer is still huge in the US.
As an example, I get two channels dedicated to soccer through Dish Network (GolTV and Fox Soccer Channel).
I've got one dedicated to the NFL, one to the NBA, and nothing dedicated to MLB or the NHL.
Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, has 4.2 million fans in the US alone. And that's for a team that plays in England.
Do the Toronto Maple Leafs have 4.2 million fans in the US?

Our modern measurement of 12 inches equaling 1 foot actually comes from a king's arm. Or, to be more precise, one-third of a king's arm. According to Isaac Asimov's Book of Facts, the arm under discussion is that of King Henry I (1068-1135) of England, who had a thirty-six inch long arm and decreed that the standard "foot" should be one-third of that length.
So blame that A55HOLE
As for soccer, it's hockey in a big field.....I enjoy it, but I doubt it will ever catch on in the US.....

Actually the US is ranked 4th in the FIFA world ranking... the problem is everyone who knows about soccer, doubts that ranking.

I told you. I think everybody disagree with that type of ranking, and I believe is based first on how every country do in their confederation, after that I have no idea how the continue with the ranking, but it definetly sucks and it's very inaccurate

i'll take soccer any day over baseball...but i am a bit biased...ex-college player here, scholarships from D1 and D2 schools...I have a cousin that plays in the english premier league, great uncle was in the same league and my dad was semi pro, my whole father's side of the family including him is from england..Liverpool right near Anfield. But ya...i'm American and still don't understand Americans, baseball, nascar etc. sooooooo boring to watch. compare that to soccer, F1, MotoGP etc.

No, field hockey is.
I've tried to like soccer the last couple times the World Cup came around, it's one of those sports I don't mind watching on the highlight reels. And I do like playing FIFA on the PS2.
Metric System- Sucks. False advertising in my opinion. When I was up in Canada, at first I thought the speed limit was 80 mph and the gas was 75 cents a gallon.

Jim Bob: (Not quoting to save space)
I'm not ignorant to the sport at all. Do I respect that the world loves it? Yes. But I live in America. Thus, I like 99.99999% of my country, find the soccer hype a waste.
You have 2 channels for soccer that I never heard of. So what? I have a tennis channel on digital cable. I also have 3 fishing channels and I'm pretty sure somewhere around channel 3,452 there is a lawn darts channel next to the arm wrestling channel.
You stated that there are limited channels for the NFL and NBA. Yet all of their games are shown live on tv. The two soccer channels show taped soccer games. What channel shows live soccer again?
Ok, the "best" soccer players don't play "pro" soccer here and play for a club? Is club pro? I play on a baseball club, am I a pro?
And this fifa stuff. International soccer is like the olympics but played every year right? So these players are amatuers right?
How do they actually measure these Manchester soccer fans in the US? Why would there be 4.2 million Leafs fans in the US when we have our own NHL teams? I'd bet the farm that there are more than 4.2 million NHL fans in the US though.
Maybe there are 4.2 million people in the US who know Manchester?
