RIP: Soccer

When will people finally see that soccer will never catch on in America? Soccer, like the Metric System, has been forced to us for years.

And still... nobody cares.

Indoor, outdoor, womens, mens, night, day, on the moon... all useless.

I just saw the first world cup ad today; thus the thread. The ad has 'Take me out to the ballgame' playing over soccer.

Is this even legal to deface 'Take me out to the ballgame' like this?

I'd take soccer over baseball any day of the week...but I'm a Euro.

What is this, "metric" you speak of?

It's pretty much that soccer will always be a 5-12 year old sport in America.

Actually, MISL's pretty fun, save for the constant SpongeBob singing.

I like watching the World Cup. You have to understand the sport to enjoy watching it. Not everything is 1-2-3 and done.

BTW, metric is way better than standard.

the US should try and care a little more about soccer because somehow they've become a regular appearing member in the World's top 10.

I agree – I am really sick of whoever it is (NPR? The Democratic Party? Warren Buffet?) trying to cram soccer down our throats. That’s been going on since the 70s and the metric comparison is a good one. WE HAVE STUFF HERE IN THE USA THAT WE LIKE AND THAT’S THAT. Stop trying to make us like the same stuff they do in Europe…not only soccer and the metric system, but not showering, shiny half boots, tucking shirts in even on the weekends, intellectualism, world peace – all that crap. Keep it.

For me, hockey and football, that’s it. Every other sport can just fade away.

I'll remember that when me and over 13,000 other people file into PaeTec Park on June 3rd to watch a minor league soccer match.

And on the same night, our local AAA baseball team will be lucky to get 8000 people to watch them play the Columbus Clippers.

America's Past Time has passed it's time.

At least it has in Rochester.

But, I guess that's why we're SoccerTown USA.

Soccer town?
wow.
Was Rochester the last town to say "not it"?

I'd be more proud if my hometown was known as "nuclear waste town USA" rather than "Soccertown USA".

We need to adapt to the "engineering" standard system. It's a hybrid of metric (the breakdown into tenths) but still use feet and all.

The only drawback of the standard system is the fact that 12 inches are in a foot. If they only would have used 10....
