How much is ethical?

So I need new pants for my High School team, since my current ones the hard plastic broke into four pieces.

My coach told me to buy the pants myself and then just give the receipt to him so the booster club can reimburse me.

The pants will belong to the school but as the tradition with ever leaving class I will probably take them with me. That and the fact that I am the backup makes me not want to make them mad by spending a lot.

So my question is, should I buy the best most comfortable pants that may cost a lot? Or should I go a cheaper route but pants I wont really like.

Goaliemonkey seems to be having some real good deals on pants so would $250 be alright for a pair of velos or epics? Keep in mind I am going to try on as many pants as I can at pure hockey so don't point out that I wouldn't be buying pants I like just the most expensive.

This is to just see what I should keep my limit at. Any help guys?

Go try on pants and price them, then ask the ass'n if the price of the pants you like is ok or if they cost too much BEFORE you buy them.

Problem solved.

It is nice that they would pay. But do the honorable thing and split it with them if you're going to keep them.

I think the recipe for hockey pants is mostly nylon mesh with some poly-foam padding sewn into the lining for protection...

Yeah, there you go. Tell them what's up and Just ask them.

Another thing you could do if you wanted would be to check out some local stores and ask for small donations to sponser the local high school hockey team for equipment. When I was in high school one of the "hockey moms" did this and got me a helmet to replace the terribly substandard one I was using. People didn't seem to mind a few bucks here and a few bucks there for that kind of thing. I don't think any one place gave more than ten bucks or so, but it adds up and might take the edge off if you're concerned about the difference of cost between some decent pants and some great ones.

Hahah thanks. I got everything else right. I know there was a T in there but it didn't look right.

Ask them what they are willing to cover reasonably, and if you want something different, cover the difference. Get what you need.

i agree with what most folks are saying here. Ask what the spending range is.

or just get your own pants and not turn anything in.

if you only have a short time left, it's almost like taking away monies from the next group if you get fancy new pants and just take off with them at the end of the year.

if they say "get what is going to fit and offer protection" then do just that. try some stuff on and get what fits and offers good protection. good for you for not trying to rip off your club. that's cool.
