Just an FYI for those who aren't in the know.
Vancouver fans are cheering Lou, for Luongo and are not saying boo. Or Boo-urns.
This cheer stems from the hometown boy makes good kicker/punter for the Candian Football League's BC Lion Lui Passaglia.
Lui Passaglia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
He was an institution for the Lions and played for them for 25 years. Every time he came out on the field the fans would cheer Lou.
Being a BC/Vancouver thing, this cheer has carried over to Luongo and actually, would probably carry over to anyone who had any part of their name sounding like 'Lou'. Provided they were any good.
But I can understand why people think that it is boo-ing as they sound similar. In fact, at my mother's recent college graduation where Lui Passaglia was getting an honourary degree in field goaling or something, he gave a speech and the crowd cheered "Lou". My mom turns to me and says, I don't think it's very polite to people to boo this man, even if his speech isn't very good.
I had to explain the whole thing to her.
So anyways, I've seen several comments popping up regarding the supposed 'boos' towards Luongo.
And I just wanted to clear this up.
