Unlike some organizations, the Flyer's owner and fans neither accept nor condone loosing. For a team with the 2nd highest winning % in the NHL, last place and the lowest point total ever was not acceptable, and someone had to pay. They fired the coach, the GM and were going to take out their anger on the rest of the league this year.

The flyers drafted 2nd last year, which was the lowest they've ever drafted with their own pick. They traded clement for the flames first pic in 75'. When you go 10 years at a time without missing the playoffs, you are generally in the 20s.

From 2002 to 2006 the pens drafted 5th, 1st, 2nd, 1st, 2nd.


The flyers while trading for or away 2 of those years, their avg draft spot based on record alone was mid 20s.

The flyers managed to get young and competitive without consistently sucking.

The coach was fired in the beginning of the worst season in Flyers' history, not the end. Stevens has had the reigns from about 10 games into the last season.

And, uh, Vengeance wasn't the playoff theme. I have a shirt from opening night with that written on it. It's been around all season.
