Detroit/Dallas West. Conf. Finals Thread

As a lifelong Red Wings fan I have to admit I have been pleased so far with Detroit's performance in the playoffs. I am a pessimist when it comes to the Wings and the playoffs. I fully expect the Wings to take 1,000 shots on goal, give up only one and lose 1-0. I am impressed by the balanced scoring, and Bab**** made the right move by putting Ozzie in net.

The offense is clicking right now with Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen, and Holmstrom leading the charge. Kronwall has been a pleasant surprise in that he has actually managed to play more than 4 minutes without breaking something (maybe he's related to Forsberg??). They shoot, shoot and shoot. They crash the net as well as anyone and no other team left standing can touch the offensive production of their d-men.

But.....History tells us that a hot goalie can take them out (Giggy, Kipper, Roloson, etc.). They've been fairly healthy for the first two rounds, let's see what happens when a key player goes down.

Fact - The Western Conference Championship goes through Hockeytown. Since winning the Cup in 2002, the last four Western Conference Champs have beaten Detroit on their way to the Cup Finals (Anaheim, Calgary, Edmonton, Anaheim).

Turco has always struggled against Detroit, god knows how many times Versus and NBC will talk about his lifetime record being something awful like 1-10 or something like that, but this is the PLAYOFFS!!! Throw everything else out the window. He is playing so calm and confident. I can see it coming now - Detroit takes 22 shots with 0 goals, Dallas comes down on a 3-on-2 or something and scores. Turco is the difference.

I liked the Stars since the playoffs started and am picking Stars in 5, maybe 6 with all the games decided by 1 goal (not counting empty netters)

You can turn in your Red Wings fan card at the table on your left. Thank you, goodbye.

I think we'll see Pens vs. Wings. I think Detroit has enough depth to pull through one or maybe even two key injuries. And I think it's funny that Mike Bab**** is censored.

It's not my lack of faith in the Wings, it's the feeling I'm getting watching Turco. He looks damn good right now and his team knows it.

I'll still be devastated if the Wings lose, but I'll keep the sticker on the car, keep wearing the hats and shirts and keep reading the Free Press everyday to see who they might sign. I'm just trying to be impartial when making my prediction. I hope I'm wrong.

Dallas fans: Why is it that Modano doesn't wear the "C"??? He's in his 18th season and no "C"? What's the story?

Morrow has been more of a leader past couple years... Mo has slowed down, he was captain for a good amount of time after Hatcher left.... he just doesnt need that responsibility at the end of his career... thats all... he just wants to play, and since he has turned over the C, he has done hella better !

Talking Turco great, but Wings will roll

Nevermind Turco....he has been brilliant for the past several years in the playoffs (remember last year? 3 SOs in a 7 game series LOSS!?!).

Detroit is too deep up front, and Ozzie has been playing some of his best hockey.

Wings in 6.

Bab****, that's teh funnay.

the good thing is that turco is used to facing all the shots... he has faced like 300 so far, both red wings goalies have faced about 200 ... ozzie really hasnt had to work yet... hopefully the stars can make him work for those wins.

Agreed! Ozzie hasn't worked yet.
When the puck is down the other end almost all game, that happens.

I would like to see Stars in 7 but I'm not sure we have the depth to beat the Wings. Lets go Stars!

I think we got great depth - the first 3 lines are great. Mike Modano as a 3rd line center, i got no complaints. I also think the D is pretty good; a good young core, and with Turco backstopping - it's gonna be a good series. Though i do think Detroit has more firepower than we do, especially with Franzan (sp) on fire right now, but we'll see.

The Stars have played very well to get to the conference finals, but now they run into the Winged Wheel. Wings in six. (Datsyuk has been amazing against the wall)
