I watch Cherry on CBC. I didn't see any Melrose interview. All I can say is throughout the playoffs, Cherry predicted the Wings would win, and had positive things to say about the team.
He has his schtick, but trust me, he has a lot of praise for the Red Wings, and has had all year.

This is true, Cherry very consistently predicted that the Wings would win, all year, all playoffs. He also correctly predicted which games they would lose or win in the final.
