No doubt about Ovechkin really, but this part from the NHL rep is true:

I have a had several shirts and hats from events that never happened, and teams being proclaimed winners of championships they lost. The merch are made up well in advance, and they just destroy the ones that don't apply in the end.

I have no doubts about that merch is made in advance for events like Superbowls, game 7s of various championships, etc.

This is too far in advance, no other shirts have been "leaked", this is not a competition to be determined by athletics. This is a vote and the results are already in.

I thought those shirts ended up in charity boxes to Africa and whatnot?
