Back in the late 90's when Hasek was in his prime with Buffalo I used to work with this guy that did the best Hasek imitation. He said the trick was to try and speak without saying the vowels of each word. Very funny.

he shouldn't of come back after his first retirement.

Good career and all that, but should've left the skates hung up 6 years ago

Boots is signed through 08/09 and then he's an RFA, so they'd have to wait a year for him and give up some picks, or trade for him.

Theodore is out there, Emery is out there (for trade supposedly), Hedberg is out there, they could try and poach Ellis or Huet... Not a lot to choose from in the UFA market this summer as far as top tier goalies are concerned.

I think they have to give Howard a legit shot. He's never been tabbes as more than a fill-in though. I think it's Osgood/Howard next year, and then the FA route in 09/10.

He's never been tabbed as more than a fill in? Not the goalie of the future?

Got a lot of knowledge there in OK eh?

They've been touting his as the goalie of the future for more than a few years (he was drafted in '03 and has had 3 years of 'seasoning' @ Maine before spending the last 3 years in Grand Rapids, where he's been a 0.500-ish goalie for the last two years). In the mean time, he has a whopping 1-4 record in the show and they've pursued every manner of established goaltender to take the reigns, so yeah, I'm not entirely convinced that Detroit's bought into the "Jimmy Howard Experience" just yet. Various people, including the fan-boys on this board, have been touting him for a while, yet in 2006, the Wings opted to re-sign Osgood and sign Hasek, so you tell me.

In reality, I should have said he's never been tabbed (as in used) as anything more than a fill-in TO THIS POINT. My bad. My point remains, he hasn't been anything more than an injury fill-in for his professional career at the NHL level, and Detroit has gone out of it's way to go 'old' in net as opposed to 'new'. I'm not privy to the talent evaluations of the Red Wings, but since you seem to be, please enlighten us all on when we can expect Howard's HOF career to get off the ground.

Also, there's something called the internet. You're on it now. Therefore, my location on this planet has little to do with my hockey knowledge. This should make you laugh, I've spent the vast majority of my life in Wyoming, North Dakota, and Mississippi, yet I can form coherent sentences, dress myself, and hold down a job.

Howard was solid as hell this season...if he'd have been the starter they would've challenged for the Cup easily. He wasn't with the big team because there is no reason not to give him another season in the A when you are winning the Jennings Trophy in the regular season this year and they were second or third last year. Smart goalie development imo, Detroit is always a contender so there's been no "rebuilding years" so you haven't seen a young guy with the team because they really don't need one. Howard is it though.

any way, he and marty b are the last of the extremly athletic goalies to make it far. Always liked the way he played.

Good points. Howard hasn't fit into their equations yet and they've gone the established vets route. Whether that had the added bonus of getting Howard time to develop at a more relaxed pace or whether he NEEDED time to develop is something only the RW's know for sure.
