Here's the Rangers:

Here's the Islanders:

Now for the Islanders, that is the season ticket holders price, which reflects a discount.

Last year was awesome. Our team would go to hawks games religiously. One of our teammates mom's "knew" the Zamboni driver...dont ask, and he got us 50% our already cheep $10 tickets we got with a USA hockey card. Sat in the 300 level, and always got to talk with the players/get autographs after the game in the locker hallway. $15-$20 for transportation, food, and a quality hockey game cannot be beat.

03-04 the cheapest ticket was $12 US. Then in 05-06 it was $10 US with a lot of $7 US ticket days. Stayed at $10 US until last year when it was $15 US. Now it's $18 US

I remember when Crosby came to Vancouver last year. I heard some people paid up to $1600 a ticket right behind the Penguins bench!! That was more than my trip to New Jersey last year to watch the Pens play against the Devils and I was right behind Broduer's net. Maybe I'll fly to Pittsburgh this year to watch Ovechkin/Malkin and Crosby play for less.

People who know how hockey-crazy my family is are always amazed to learn that we've never gone to Detroit for a Red Wings game. They don't understand how outrageous the pricing is, particularly compared to what we're used to paying for our local minor league team.

I just can't justify spending the equivalent of an entire season ticket package for one person (38 games) for our 3-person family to attend one NHL game. Our season tix this year and next (locked in for two years) will cost us just under $30 per game for the whole family (Hubster and I are $11.90/game, Dom is $6.00/game). And if we don't use our tickets for some reason (illness, conflict with Dom's hockey, Hubster out of town on business, etc.), we can exchange our unused tix for a different game and bring friends for 'free'.

Some years we even buy an extra child season ticket for one of the seats behind us (we're on the glass in a row of only 3 seats, so there are no seats next to us) and we use that seat to store our coats, etc. A couple months into the season, we have enough unused child tix to get Dom's whole team into a game for free (parents have to pay their own way, though).

Unlike in Canada, we don't use the term "minor" for youth hockey at all. Minor league hockey in the USA is adult, professional hockey. "Juniors" is just called Juniors, and youth is called youth. This always confused me when parents of guys who played on the local pro team would chat about when their kid played "minor hockey" back home... once I figured out that "minor" = "youth", their conversations made a lot more sense to me!

In this case, the team in question is considered AA level minor league professional hockey. (The AHL is AAA level minor league professional hockey.) Examples of AA leagues would be the "new" IHL (formerly the UHL), the ECHL, and the CHL (Central, separate entity from the Canadian CHL juniors league -- that term threw me before I learned the translations, too!). These are all considered full pro leagues -- the players only play hockey during the season, without holding down separate jobs. (Many of them do have to work summer jobs, however.) Down another step is the single-A leagues (MAHL, SPHL), which would be considered more like semi-pro. Many of these guys are only making $100-$200/week (and even then, their checks often bounce, depending on the team they play for!).

Easiest example I can think of is Darren McCarty this past season -- when he wanted to make his comeback, Kris Draper (who is a part-owner of the team) offered him a contract with the Flint Generals, which plays in the same AA league as my local team. After he got back in shape and got his skates under him with the AA team, the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL called him up to the AAA level, and ultimately the Detroit Red Wings called him back up to The Show.

Notice the "please inquire" for the Canucks tickets. That basically means we will make up the prices what ever the hell we feel like making them. Kinda like the fuel prices right now.
