*** 2009/2010 Signings, trades and transactions thread ***
With the draft quickly approaching, teams will start making trades and signing players before the July 15 deadline for declaring free agency, as well as announcing which players will likely NOT be returning. Post away as they surface, but try to keep it to ACTUAL trades & transactions, not rumours and wishes!!

I wonder if Legace will be sitting on anyone's bench this year.
My guess is Conklin won't get resigned w/ the Wings. He's gota be sick of one year deals.

I'd feel bad for him, but its not like its his fault his teams keep losing. I don't think you pin the Oilers on him, at least not near all of it. Hell, he wouldnt have even been there last year if he hadn't played out of his mind. And this year, he didn't really have to much at all.

Hell, at this point if I was his agent/equip mgr/gf/shoe shiner I'd be telling him to switch gloves, wash his jock, put his gear on the other way, shave his head...

The Phoenix Coyotes may be in bankruptcy but they continue to do business.
Phoenix has traded centre Steve Reinprecht to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Stefan Meyer.
The Coyotes have also agreed to terms with forward Petr Prucha on a two-year deal worth $1.1 million per season.
Reinprecht, meanwhile, has signed a three-year deal with the Panthers.
Reinprecht's three-year deal has a cap hit of $2.050 million. He will get $1.8 million in the first year and $2.175 million in each of the following two years.

Listened to Brian Burke on Sportsnet this morning and he's vowing to make the Leafs a tougher team next season. You can tell in his voice that he was frusterated last season by the lack of toughness so its going to be interesting to see what he does.
He's been contacted or has contacted some teams about making some trades but hasn't come out with names yet. He usually likes to make a splash on draft day, but also has the brief window to move Kaberlea and Kubina if the deal is right because the Leafs didn't make the playoffs last season. Both have no trade contacts but because of that clause in their contracts, they would have to go if they were traded even if its to a team that they don't want to play for.

I heard Pittsburgh is looking to pay for a one year deal that keeps Conklin in Detroit.

As for Burke and the Leafs getting tougher, I think thats a line he has to tread lightly but I agree that they need to get tougher. Right now they have NO ONE that can intimidate and provide that "dont screw with us" kind of presence. I watched the Leafs play the wild live last season and I saw Boogaard walk all over the Leafs while the closest thing to a tough guy (Brad May) had to basically bite his tongue and allow it to happen.
However, that being said, I dont think Burke should trade anything really valuable and important to the rebuild in order to get a tough guy either. Leafs fans all remember the Courtnall for Kordic trade. So while I would agree that the Leafs need more team toughness, I think theyre only 1 enforcer and one sandpaper type guy away from that goal because there's a few guys on the team like Finger, White, Schenn and others that can drop the mitts and stand up for themselves.
I have a friend that moved to Toronto and is working in the media there now who has been tossing me a lot of Maple leafs rumours, for the record, here's a few that he has tossed me.
- Free agents that Toronto is rumoured to have interest in:
- Chris Neil
- Taylor Pyatt
- Travis Moen
- Andrew Peters
- Brad Winchester
- Jay Boumeester
- Mattias Ohlund
- Rob Scuderi
- a number of free agent goaltenders have been spoken of but apparently if the Gustavsson signing doesnt happen, the Leafs are thinking of bringing in an affordable option capable of starting near half the games. Use your imagination I guess.
Also there's been a few trade rumours as well like trading their 1st round pick and a prospect to a couple of possible teams to move up in the draft and get Braydon Schenn.
The other trade rumours Ive heard range from wild to tame. One was Reimer, Ponikarovsky and a prospect for Giguere. Another involved getting Wade Belak back for a minor league prospect. The most fantastic rumour my friend reported was Milan Lucic for a slew of players (obviously extremely false but I wouldnt put it past Burke).
Apparently the media in Toronto is buzzing with anticipation as many people there feel Burke is going to make a tonne of big moves that will end up with the Leafs looking drastically different next season. As a leafs fan I am taking all this talk of big change as a good thing this year rather than the usual promise of a "new look leafs" because Burke actually seems like he wants to get something done.

Are there still rumors that Burke is going to offer sheet Scottie Upshall?
