Prince William Ice Center collapsed today, due to the heavy snowfall. It was my High School's home rink, and this sucks. Hopefully some fundraisers will be created to help rebuild it or build a new rink altogether

Wow!

I've never played there before, was it a particularly old facility?

It wasn't that old, and I thought it was in fairly good shape. I was shocked when I heard about this. It even made it to Fox News!

We had some speed skaters on the ice this morning, then a beam on ceiling started to twist and ... we got everybody out,“ said Hutzler, who bought the rink in March 2008. The rink was built in 1996

Yeah I replied before I saw the link for the article.

That's too bad. Here's to hoping the teams that used the facility as a home rink can find adequate ice time elsewhere until it's repaired.

I used to play out of there before I moved. Loved that place. I saw my friends' status updates on FB, and the entire PW Ice community is pretty devastated. No good.

That was my rink, too. We just started a new season that was supposed to run through June, then they planned to shut down for major re-hab thorughout July.

It sounds as though they will rebuild. Hopefully this time they will put drains in on the floor of the bathrooms (there was no place for shower overspray to go -- go figure.)

Unfortunately, not alot of rinks around, and ice time everywhere was already scarce. Not sure I would be willing (nor would my team) to play in the wee hours of the morning...

Yeah, I'm not sure what my school team is going to do. We still have a couple games left in our season, all of which were supposed to be played there. My guess is we'll play over at Reston, but I'm not a fan of that rink and it's crowded enough as it is.

Here is an album of the damage. Hurts to look at for me personally. I loved that place

NOVA? Is that like Northern Virginia?

I grew up (****, this was 23 years ago) on the Maryland side. Played for what I thought was NVA, out of MtVernon Ice rink and even had ice time at Tucker Road over in the PGC...

Ahhh memories

wow...reminds me of when the patterson park rink did the same thing (almost 20 years ago). Only that rink was just like a tennis bubble. We played "roofless" until it was fixed. As far as the PW rink goes, I think its only 10-15 years old. That really sucks, hopefully the other rinks int he area will help house some of the displaced teams.

I know the guy who snapped those pics. Kills me to see them too, and I'm not even there.
