Somehow I can't believe that the music kids are listening to causes this. People are already a little nuts, and it comes out in the music.
If it were only that simple, we could just ban certain kinds of music, videos, games, and literature, and be done with it. But for some reason I think that wouldn't work.

Exactly timber. Let's go back to before the 1900's... before everything that 'causes' violence in teens existed. I'd love to see stats on these sort of events compared to now. None exist, of course, but it would be interesting.

I'm gonna have to agree with this.
I think those things are activities these sort of people will seek out, but if they didn't exist I'm not convinced they wouldn't find other outlets and end up doing the same thing.
If any one single media element encourages these kinds of shootings, I'd say it's the news coverage it gets. They see it as some kind of fame or message they can send to the world, and sadly, they're right.
The other thing I'd blame (if we've really got to deflect blame from murderous maniacs, which we don't) is the pressure our young people are under in modern society. I don't know how long this trend has been going on or what kind of acceleration it's had, but I think if you ask other members of the rising generation they'll report the same thing. There is so much emphasis put on education and status and bureaucracy, and so much control exercised over our youth in these areas in often irrational ways, and so few alternatives in which a young person can seek a practical and utilitarian way of life, it's possible to begin to feel like a doomed prisoner. Get enough anger built up over this and you can see why people lash out.
I believe a similar mentality is involved in suicide bombers and terrorists. In fact, a middle-eastern news correspondent reported that he felt there were similarities between a video made by the killer in a shooting here in the US in comparison to mayrterdom videos made by those kinds of extremists.
Again, though, murderers are murderers and deserve no sympathy or justification (except maybe legitimate insanity, which doesn't qualify as murder anyway).

Terrible to hear this is. Hard to believe also that Finland has the 3rd highest gun/per person ratio in the world behind Yemen and the US.

Well, Mr Thumper if you would go back and read my posts, you will see that I said that the liberal Media WILL in a future tense use this against the USA and make feel bad for being Americans. I did not say it happened yet, but mark my words it will( in the future)
