Did April fools come early this year? Or is this real? If so, that would be brutal.

TheSpec.com - BreakingNews - Toronto fire under control

Is Duke's Cycle the same store as Duke's Source?

Not the goalie store Dukes - the Dukes that burned down was a local bicycle shop that's been a family run business since the 1920's.

Still a sad day for Toronto. Thankfully nobody died or was hurt.

Dukes sports is on Bloor Street in Etobicoke, that fire was on Queen Street pretty much downtown Toronto.

As a side not Dukes is usually closed on Wednesdays.

I actually know the Duke Brothers who own the shop. We used to hang out years ago.

It's basically a historical bike landmark in Toronto, very sad.

Well I'm relieved and sad at the same time. Relieved that the hockey gear store didn't burn down; sad that a related cyclery did. I got my favorite goalie mask fluffy things from Dukes ... and skates profiled and new trapper and blocker.

Yah.....I was getting a little worried.

Seriously though.....sad day for that bike store. They were pretty much a landmark down on Queen street. I think they've been there since 1914 through several family generations. The owner of the store is Gary Duke.

Not at all related to Duke's Sports, though. Coincidentally, the owner of Duke's Sports is also named Gary but the name Duke's came from his dad who was "Duke".

just a bit of trivia.

Nonetheless, sad day for Duke's Cycle in T.O.

It was an entire city block that burned down. Many buildings dating back to the 1830's then Toronto was founded were destroyed. I guess there could be some old gunk in there that would be harmful.

The Duke's store that burned down was my Toronto friend's favorite bicycle shop. They sold "lotsa real nice middle end and hi end rigs".

I've been buying bikes there for over 20 years. I know a bunch of the guys who work there. Very sad day, imo.
