Orange...Should I eat it?

So I was eating a couple oranges (I can never eat just one) and peeled one that looked like a grapefruit on the inside. It was red.
I took a little tasty taste. It had a slightly different taste than a regular orange, but not too much different. Not bad at all. Just kind of lacking that citrusy taste.
Anyway I saved it in a baggy to show it off to my family tomorrow (or in case I get sick, they can do testing on it )
Anyone ever seen this before. I eat oranges religiously and this was a first for me. For the record, they are navel oranges.

Just googled blood orange. That looks about right. Thanks, never even new there was such a thing nor did I see a label for them at the grocery store. It seems they are a good source of lycopene, Heinz's marketing strategy to promote their ketchup. Good enough for me

I have to go to the store in a few minutes to do some grocery shopping. I will return with a review of this "blood orange".

A friend of mine has a blood orange tree in his yard. I asked if I could have one and when I split it open I was like,

"uh... your oranges are diseased..."

"No, dude, it's a blood orange."

"A wha?"

"A blood orange. The more red it is the more sugar is in there. That's good."

And then I became hooked. Sooooo delicious. Sometimes he gives me a whole bag.
