I still listen to some of their stuff from time to time.
But I'm more partial to BDP- their second album specifically-Illegal business. Check that one.

Guru from Gang Starr's solo albums Jazzmatazz Vol 1 and 2 are both well worth owning. Both are regarded by many as being among the best hip-hop albums of the 90's.

SNAP!!! I waited nearly 8 years on this BB to see anything come up on Hip Hop(the real deal) and JUST NOW you drop 2 of the most influential groups in the culture
I got into Hip Hop back in '83 through b-boying. BDP was and still is a favorite of mine..."The Bridge is over", a true classic that helped put them out there. I'm a BIG KRS-ONE fan and had the chance to see him perform in Ottawa some years ago.
Gangstarr is another favorite holding down in TRUE Hip Hop style. Guru drops some good science for the mind and DJ Premier is a pioneer and well respected producer as well. I liked how Guru branched out into Jazz to create another attaché to Hip Hop music. He said owing that move to his father who was a jazz performer from back in the day.
I'm happy this thread happened . Maybe now i can share some of my other passion, other than goaltending, with y'all

HA,
I remember him. I forgot what age i was (like 6-8) but i used to listen to him. I only liked one of the songs on the album but i listened to it over and over again. It was one of my first Cd's, along with Cat Stevens and Cher (yes strange music for a little kid).

Gang Starr had a song on the 8 Mile soundtrack that was pretty good (Battle), but I think thats the latest Ive heard of him.
I saw Nas was mentioned, his Streets Disciple double CD is my favorite full album of his.
I know he isn't 'old school', but in my mind Eminem is the one of the top 5 rappers of all time. Everyone of his CD's are incredible.

Ouuu, big words . He's talented, no doubt, but there are quite a few out there, old and new that could have easily taken his spot. His being a white MC made it easier for the industry to sell him to mainstream america. Truly, lets just put him in on open mic against sayyyy, Busta Rhymes, or KRS, or Talib, and the R aka Rakim! Slim would have to work hard to take down any of the aforementioned MCs IMO.

Kardinall is the freshest in Canada at the moment. He's gotten tons of attention accross the border. His latest work was with the Akon camp.
Since Meastro and Dream Warriors and Michie Mee and Sound factory has gone ghost on us, Kardinall has picked up the torch really fast. Even the Rascals have defunct and i really don't like their solo efforts. I hate it when my favorites disband like that.
All time "shouldn't of" break ups in Hip Hop History:
- BDP
- EPMD
- 3rd Bass
- Tribe Called Quest
- Eric B and Rakim
- Wu-Tang Clan
- Rascals
- Outkast
- NWA
the list goes on...
