GS, I think I've been keeping a pretty level head in my discussion. I've tried (succeeded? I think so, but YMMV) in refraining from belittling anyone or making any statement which could be inflammatory. I think the whole issue here is that intelligent discussion is rarely possible with these sorts of topics.

If there's one thing we all should be able to agree on... Scientology is really dumb.

Now hold on there professor (if you can name me the movie, you get a gold star): how are we going to argue that string theory is a plausible and valid scientific field while at the same time deny that the possibility of God is out of the realm of possibilties we just said are valid?

Let me put that in a simpler way:
1. There are things we don't understand and are still studying.
2. There's no way that these things we don't understand may be the way to prove the existence of God.
That's essentially your determination. Making a factual conclusion based on a not fully-understood concept.

This may all change at the end of June when they fire up the Super Duper Collider at Cern.

The faithful just love to bring up string theory as their defense to the myth of god also being valid. The problem is that you obviously do not understand what string theory is and what it is not. String theory is a mathematical approach to theoretical physics. It is not a scientific theory because it does not rely upon empirical evidence, it is a mathematical theory which is a big difference. Unlike a scientific theory, string theory also does not make any predictions and there are no experiments that can prove string theory as a valid scientific theory. As such, as a scientific theory, it is still only a hypothesis based upon other principles that are yet to be observed as well. So while the mathematical theory is still valid, as a scientific theory, String theory is a poor foundation upon which to set up an argument for the belief in god as it is not a scientific theory by definition.
God, on the other hand, has no basis upon which to create a mathematical or scientific hypothesis in the first place. There is no observable evidence upon which to make a hypothesis and no other type of evidence for that matter other than overactive imaginations of people who are simply to lazy to look for the real answers or prefer to be told what to think by people in silly robe and hats. God is a poor raplacement for rational thought and has no place in the life of any rational being.

String Theory
Regarding string theory: I have been carefully observing our cat for the last year. Clearly he is preparing for an attack by strings: he spends a great deal of time hunting and pulling string in our house. I think cats know something we don't. When the great string invasion takes place, cats, like mine, may be the only thing to save us.
PS: do cats have a religion?

Cats have religion; so so do dogs. It works like this:
Dog Theology: You give me food, therefore You are God.
Cat Theology: You give me food, therefore I am God.

Read this in my doggy calender:
To err is human;
To forgive is canine.

I saw this on a sign by someone's desk in a TV program: I want to become the person my dog thinks I am.
I just want a dog. But I'm not home all day and my dog would be lonely.
Semper woof.

My dog thinks I never feed her (or at least that's what it seems like).
I wouldn't actually want to become that guy.

My GSD has a drinking problem: he slobbers water all over the place. And he drools on the floor every time the closet door where the food is opens.
