I'll toss my hat into the ring. Either Supermod or Hot Stove. I've been here forever and except for a few instances have remained pretty even-handed. Plus, I have experience moderating other (professional) forums.

I think it is the best solution.
Hi Sloth,

I'm sure that each of those moderators appreciate your post of support and I fully agree with you. There is no reason to switch up the team except that yearly mod elections is something that we've pledged to do several years ago.

The position is pretty stressful at times so yearly elections does a couple of things.

It provides an opportunity for current mods to reevaluate their role and opt out. But it also allows for the membership to show their support for the great work they've done over the past year. I know that each mod that was reelected appreciated the public approval of their work. In some cases that support was virtually unanimous with some second term mods receiving twice the votes of next in line candidates. I'm sure that the same will occur this year.

It also helps fill out the team more fully. As it has happened in each of our elections, some elected mods have other life obligations that do not afford them the time that others put in. The result being that some current mods feel that they carry the majority of the load. Most mod descisions are subject to debate in the owners lounge which I think leads to excellent outcomes. The more active voices the better.

It's my hope that the members will reaffirm the mods they like while throwing their support for some new talent to help round out the team.

All in all I think it's a good thing and I hope this year we get an even higher turnout than last year. Last year we had 320 members casting their votes which was nearly double the count from the previous year. So make sure you all get out and vote!

Thanks,
Sean

Sean,

Thanks for the reply. I'm just afraid that as in the past these elections have turned into popularity contests and then it turns into a pissing match once the new mods assume their roles.

Needless to say the transitions of power if you will have been less than smooth in the past.

I'm just throwing it out there, and it is obvious to all I think that the crop of mods we have right now that are active are the best we've ever had.

In the words of the immortal and infamous Moto, Just sayin'.

You got my vote.

I withdrew last year due to lack of time to commit to watching over teh intert00bz, yet still managed to get 8 votes. (thanks to the 7 others who voted for me!)

This year I'm working a job that I don't have to pay much attention to, since kids don't require NEARLY as much time or effort as my old office job, so I'll be running for Equipment Forum mod this year, sieeing how I know more about goalie gear than the rest of life's mysteries by a long shot.

I hope you all take the time to consider who will be a good, consistent moderator and vote accordingly, it's in the best interest of our BB, and remember the mods that have put in work all year long... not the ones who have suddenly appeared to refresh themselves in our minds now that the elections are coming closer.

DRE IN 2008 :P

elections don't turn into popularity contests..they ARE popularity contests.
Campaign promises seldom have any resemblance to the results because of this.
Elections are about popularity, governance is about effectively managing that which should be managed, and not managing that which does not need it. Elections and governance are two profoundly different things.

I fully agree with Sloth here. Just because it was promised a few years ago doesn't make it a good idea. I would prefer people be selected by the owners of the bb myself, based on merit of how they post and behave on a day to day basis over time. This bb is not supposed to be a democracy, nor should it be. I think the mods Sloth mentioned are doing great and there is no need for a change.

Also people who show too much eagerness to be a mod are people I won't vote for, because to me that shows self interest more than interest in the health of the bb.
