The good part of the elections here is that you've got to be a member for 1+ year to vote, and if I'm not mistaken to be allowed to even become a mod. Hopefully people have learned from some of the BAD decisions that have been made in the past in these elections.

I believe that any member can vote, but you have to be here for a year to volunteer/nominate.
I also agree with the idea that we should get to vote as many times as there are positions available. Our local school board has X number of positions available and Y number of candidates, so we get to vote for X number of people.
I threw my hat in the rink (pun intended) for Hot Stove, simply b/c that's where I spend most of my time. (although technically, you don't need to have specific training in a subject to moderate it -- it's pretty obvious when a post needs to be moved/locked/deleted -- I still feel that the DOI and EQ boards would be better served by having mods who frequent those boards regularly and so have a good "feel" for the people in that sub-community.)
I've been modding other international boards, public and private both, for the better part of a decade. I also think that since I haven't been here a terribly long time, I'm not part of any "cliques" that may have formed (past or present), and so it can be easy to be objective in some of the "he did it first" situations that come up. I would also like to be able to give back to the community that has provided me with so much information and social companionship. (In spite of the petty flame wars, this really is a great group of people!)
