Metal Gear Solid 4 (and MGS fans)
MGS4 comes out in 2 days, is anyone going to pick this up?
I am seriously considering buying a Playstation 3 just to play this game (I already own an Xbox 360 and Wii), I am a huge Metal Gear Solid fan, and watching all the trailers surrounding it is killing me.
To splurge or not to splurge...sigh...

I'm gonna be all over that when it drops. I doubt I'll go as far as waiting in line for it, but I'm not above making a morning run to Best Buy on my way in to work . . .
I've read that the cut scenes are not actually 90 minutes long, and that you can pause them part way through (in case you need to go to the bathroom or, you know, interact with society for some reason).
Some Wal-Marts have been breaking street date on the game and the PS3/game bundle, so you hardcore fans might want to check that out.

MSG is one of the greatest properties in the history of games. The problem is that what makes this game great, it's mechanics, has now been thrown to the back burner for convoluted story lines and retarded plot twists.
This is not to say that the game-play is not great..it is...I've seen it in action. Is it worth buying a ps3 for? Hell no.
And Leafer is right. Viva Pinata is where its at.

Lego Indiana Jones is a pretty cool game as well. I enjoy running around hitting people with chairs, shovels, and wrenches.

I'd have to disagree. Sure, the gameplay and attention to detail is phenomenal. But what makes it so good to me is the story. Sure, MGS2 got a little crazy, but I cared about the characters. All three MGS games (I never had the opportunity to play the Metal Gear games) have done a terrific job of character development, and are wonders of storytelling. The emotion that MGS was able to muster, on the ORIGINAL Playstation, when you finally killed Sniper Wolf was amazing.
In MGS2, EE's death really shook me up. You spend most of the game trying to help her, and then they kill her off?! That series of events really made me question what the story was getting at, and what video games, as a genre, really are.
The entire story line of MGS3, while much less convoluted than its predecessor, had a gripping, relevant plot from beginning to end. The interplay of Snake and The Boss explained, rather retroactively, the motivation for the events of the Metal Gear games, as well as some of the reasoning behind MGS.
Sure, there are long cut scenes; I'm okay with that. I just make sure that I have plenty of time to play, and that I take frequent bathroom breaks.

MGS is the one console game I still cherish...seriously...
I know it has laughable plot elements and does meander BUT it has balls to do it and to try to elevate playing games to something more than cute little maths formulas...

I'm sure the game will be amazing from both a mechanics side and the tech side. Kojima Productions goes all out and pours their hearts into the MSG games. I'm just too lazy in my old age to deal with it.
That said..I'm playing NES Metal Gear at work right now. Remote missiles ftw.

hey play the online game (on the official site) its FUN!!!
yeah you could write a lengthy piece on MGS, to be honest i played the first one on the PS and was gob smacked by the game, thoughtful plot, awesome gameplay and whacky humour. Plus the ending absolutely floored me, I was playing it as a student with the guys (we took it in turns playing, I got to be the one who nailed the last fight) and as I was resting the controller in our living room my sense of appreciation was complete, plus the songs as gaelige...

and lets not forget how awesome psycho mantis, was, how cool sniper wolf was as a boss, and the sheer innovation of the entire game...a freaking box man!!! to hide in, and then you get to walk...
as for sons of liberty it grew on me...and yes the game meandered after the tight opening BUT it was a good game,
