That's half the answer. :-)

I was in the Boy Scouts for a couple years. Looking back, I realize I was overshadowed by my older brother. He fully qualified for Eagle except for the unwritten rule that you have to be a member of the sponsoring church. I just lost interest. Of course, had I made it to Eagle Scout, then nowadays I'd be more involved... and I'm sure some of the leaders wouldn't like me very much.

That's the irony of the situation. The Boy Scouts are anti-atheist and anti-homosexual. They go so far as to say you can't be an upstanding moral person if you're atheist, and you're inherently immoral if you're homosexual. Sounds right up god's alley. And what's he do? Blast them with a tornado!
