Tim Russert, host of "Meet the Press", dies at 58

NBC's Tim Russert dead at 58 - U.S. news - MSNBC.com

Russert was truly the best out there. His death is a huge loss, especially to the journalism community. My thoughts and condolences go to his family.

I honestly didn't like him. He was good in the 2000 election and was surely knowledgeable about politics and so on, but he was petrified to ask tough questions and pin people down on their answers. He did it once or twice against Rummy and Cheney and got his bottom spanked by his employers and softballed the rest of his career.

That said....never like to see a relatively young person struck down.

Take this note all you guys over 30....get your yearly done and get a stress test/EKG.

Predictably wrong.

I watched Russert religiously, and never failed to come away having learned something, as Russert was able to get information and revelations that his contemporaries could not.

My heart goes out to his family. I'm glad to hear he got to see his son graduate and celebrate that with him, but he was still too young. May he rest in peace.

Tim grew up a block away from me and was a hometown hero. He was a good family man along with being a great journalist and the city of Buffalo will forever miss him. Rest In Peace Tim.

I never said he wasn't good at his job, he was, in fact I made a point to say that I enjoyed his coverage of the 2000 election as he had everything nailed down.

However in his interviews I've seen he had guys like Cheney and Rumsfeld against the ropes but always let them up without delivering the knockout question. It's indicative of our modern political 'news' coverage. They put the kid gloves on all the time.
