Hey smart people, is this the right word?
This is part of an email I got today. The back story probably isn't important, but from what I understand the contract with one office equipment supplier (Company A) is ending with my company (Company X), and we will be using another office equipment supplier (Company B). Apparently Company A has employees to exclusively serve my company, and this paragraph discusses those employees.
Quote:
|
Please be advised that (Company A) currently maintains a clause within its standing agreement stipulating that (Company X) is to reframe from offering jobs directly to (Company A) employees. (Company A) has made it clear they do not wish to release any of their current staff. We are requesting that (Company X) managers and supervisors reframe from offering employment of any kind to the current (Company A) staff.
|
So the question to you people with good book learnin', should "reframe" be "refrain", or am I just a dummy?

You should have seen the email my boss attempted to write yesterday! Fortunately, by the time he finished it he realized it probably wasn't right, so he forwarded it to me, I fixed it up (including the improper use of "are" instead of "our" ), sent it back to him, and he copy/pasted it into a new email. Construction guys aren't known for their language skillz, that's for dang sure!
As for the original poster -- have your attorney read over the original contract. If it was written up by the likes of the moron who wrote the letter, it may have so many loopholes that you can hire anyone you want!

Oh, I'm not doing any hiring, which was the other frustrating thing about this email. I don't care what photocopier they use in the office. I'm only in the office once a year. The rest of the time I'm in the field. But every day someone sends an email to the Canada mailing list (about 2200 people) when it concerns only maybe 100.

It's probably some weird spellcheck thing. She spelt it wrong and that's what it threw out.

Hubster's company is working with a national drug store chain, and the unnecessary CC: thing is just killing him. They have 4,000 people working in their corporate headquarters, and evidently the general consensus is that 75% of those people need to see every single email that comes down the pike. Makes me glad that only four people in my company have access to email, and one of them is afraid of it and another one rarely checks theirs!
Oh, and I'm fond of Dictionary and Thesaurus - Merriam-Webster Online when needed.

There's always an exception once in a while... (Heck, I'm a woman who doesn't carry a purse or require "company" to go to the restroom in a restaurant , and I hang out with a bunch of goalies online almost every day! )
I don't know about over in your neck of the woods, but 'round these parts we have a saying about construction guys -- if there isn't a picture of it, they can't read it!
