I will have to learn a little more about her, but I think she is a decent pick. I am glad he did not just pick one of the losers from the primaries and went with a totally unexpected person, this eliminates the media or Obama campaign from pulling out the soundbites of the primary loser badmouthing the current candidate when they pick them to be VP the way Hannity and Rush are doing.. It does balance out the ages now for the overall ticket, I think Obama/Biden is still 3 years younger total, but if McCain had picked another old white guy, that would have been the end.

The Republican party is changing it's name to "Laugh In". McCain will keep thinking Palin is his VP's secretary. I can see wives all over the U.S. saying you vote for her and you sleep on the couch for the next 4 years.

Her track record isn't bad but it's short -- shorter than Obama's, even. How the Republicans will respond to this will be interesting.
But a VP pick is far more than a complementary choice for me. It's also a, "What if the President dies?" pick. If Obama dies, we have a guy with a ton of experience right behind him. If McCain dies, we have someone with very little experience behind him.
I would be very worried if I was a Republican.

This post makes no sense. As a republican we should be worried because the backup has little experience whereas the starter for the dems has little experience.....Seriously??? Do you think first???
Not too sure her list is shorter either. She has actually done a few things in her state. Sure it is not on a national level but she has paved the way some.
Not sure I completly like this pick but it is ok I guess. I was pulling for Ridge personally but I am from PA and liked him while he was here. Class act kind of guy.

Seriously, McCain's main argument has been that Obama is too inexperienced to be president...so he picks someone with even LESS experience to be a heartbeat away from the presidency? Huh? I guess I need someone with RyJ's astute political acumen to explain this pick to me because I don't get it.
Republicans your time would now be best spent preparing for 2012 because this race is OVER.

I see this a making for interesting parity in the campaigning --
Each side has someone young with some experience (Obama and Palin)
Each side has a crotchety, old, white-haired male (McCain and Biden)
Each side has a rep who has not been elected to the White House (Obama - black/muslim and Palin - female)
As for the comment on VP debates -- I'd take Palin and her younger mind over Biden. I saw him flub his lines last weekend when he was announced and didn't have a teleprompter.

John McCain is
so old all during the Olympics he kept complaining that it just wasn’t the same since they dropped chariot racing.
so old his trophy wife is in her 50s.
so old the last time he tried to sleep in the Lincoln bedroom Mary refused his advances and Abe threw him out of the house.
so old , Pharaoh asked him to let HIS people go.
so old he used to own obama’s grand father.
so old he sat behind George Washington back in the 5th grade…
so old he sang while Nero fiddled.
so old he carried the life jackets aboard the Ark !!
so old he has a layer of iridium just under his skin.
so old, he remembers when Rolling Stone was relevant.
so old his social security number is 1.
so old his birth certificate is in Roman numerals.
so old he co-wrote the ten commandments.
Your turn

So let's play a what-if game.
What if the GOP ticket wins AND McCain dies in office? We get a president that is apparently lacking enough expericence for the job.
What if the Dem ticket wins? We get a president that is apparently lacking enough expericence for the job.
Hmmmm. If there's OTJ training going on, I want that person to be in the co-pilot's seat.

Your point is invalid because Obama IS qualified to be President (as qualified or perhaps even more so than former governors Clinton or GW Bush were when they entered the White House, especially more than GW Bush!). I don't think Palin has even served in the state legislature prior to becoming governor of a very small state.
President Obama will surround himself with able, competent individuals who will more than make up for any gaps in his experience. He has already demonstrated this by choosing the very qualified Joe Biden to be vice president.
Game, set, and match OBAMA!

A gentleman never tells but I will say no complaints. (but only 1% or less of what I say on the interweb is true, bear that in mind, and don't believe anything that I say unless I'm talking about mechanics.)
American politicis is quite odd, I don't think I will ever completely understand it, it seems that everyone these days is more concerned with the show rather than substance of character, more interested in who can toe the party line the best.
It would be nice if Government in Canada, the U.S. of A and other free countries would concentrate their efforts on the betterment of their countries rather than their own party agendas, alas it seems we're in the decline of the West, I weep for my great grandchildren (if they come about).

Let's see, Obama and Biden have been members of Congress, where their duties have included voting on bills (as has McCain), whereas Palin has at least had a role with the authority level of implementing legislation (signing an approved bill into law). I'd like to have someone in the White House who at least has some experience being the last person to say "no" to something.
Game, set, match?? I don't think so. This thing is just beginning.
