Xbox 360 Connecting Problem

Before I moved my Xbox was working perfectly. I am using the original xbox adapter on my 360. I just tried setting up my xbox at my host family's house and I get a weird message that comes up:
Quote:
Some wireless network adapters may interfere with you wireless controller. To avoid interference, configure your network to use the 5-GHz (802.11a) frequency. For more information go to Xbox.com | Support
I'm not exactly sure how to do this and I checked the website and nothing comes up. I have searched google as well this forum. I put in my settings for my wireless then I test the connection and my adapter says connected then it tries to connect to wireless then that makes the adapter disconnect. I'm not sure what to do now. Maybe re-configuring the network will change this problem but, like I said, I don't know how to do that.

I'm not sure how to get to their settings. I'm used to Linksys at my house so I just type in 192.168.1.1

are you using your wireless router that came with you from your old house or the host families?

I'm connecting to their wireless router, my parents still need my router. What if I mover their router to my room then ran an ethernet cord from my Xbox to the router? Would this solve the problem?

Yes.

If you remain trying to connect to their wireless router then you have to make sure they do not have security on it and you get the WAC(i think) code from the sticker on the router. You will need that to connect.

Netgear is 192.168.0.1. D-Link is the same I think. You would probably be able to find the manual or setting IP if you looked online.

No, I don't think hardwiring to the router will fix your problem. It seems as if the message is telling you that the frequency the family's router is using interferes with the wireless controller. As long as the router is using that frequency it will interfere, regardless of how the Xbox is connected.

If he hardwires in then he no longer is using the wireless aspect and thus would be fine. It would be a direct conect to the router.

No, he wouldn't be using the wireless for the Xbox, but I assume the rest of the devices still would be. That router is still using the conflicting frequency whether it is for the Xbox or a computer. Since the connection used to work, it is obviously not the Xbox wireless adapter causing the problem, so bypassing it probably on't fix it. The router is likely using a 2.4 Ghz signal which is what the controllers use. The only way to correct the conflict is to change the frequency or disable the router while using the Xbox.

Ah misread first post in that controller was also being affected. Ignore my previous post then...

The problem is the wireless router is affecting his controller being able to connect to his xbox....so he needs to configure his wireless router so it doesn't interfere anymore (by setting it to 5-GHz (802.11a)) ...the information to do that will be with his router not with xbox.....so stop looking on xbox.com for help and find out what kind of router you're using, and how to change the settings!

Try changing it to G and see if it works, if not, try B. If neither work, let us know!

If you end up getting connected, feel free to add me, gt is feliks, I'm usually only playing Battlefield Bad Company....love that game right now .
