Who steals from a gym locker?
I stopped by the gym today after work and class. Been trying to do as much cardio as I can until my surgery recovery is over. Anyway, I get to my assigned locker at the gym and my lock isn't there. Open it up and the thing is completely cleaned out (including my deorderant). At first I was thinking that maybe I was off by one and tried all the lockers around it. I checked at the desk and non of my stuff was back there (in case they did it for some reason or another). No luck BUT I was able to fill out an incident report and I shouldn't be fined for not returning the items. The gym charges 20 if you don't meet the deadline to turn back in semester rentals plus additional cost if the rentals aren't returned.
Personal property stolen:
- Asic running shoes
- Gym shorts
- Hygiene products
Gym property stolen: (all rentals are semester long)
- Lock
- Shirt and towell (swapped out after use)
Once I get the OK that I will not end up being fined for not returning the gym equipment I won't be out that much money. The asics were well used. I've had them for about a year and have put in a lot of miles in them. Mainly it's just the padding that's worn. I've mainly used them on the indoor track so even with a lot of use they still have some life in them. The shorts are about 4 years old so not a big loss there, I have some more
I'm mainly just scratching my head on this one. I just don't get it. Maybe someone was able to catch my combination when I put it in and thought the shoes were new or I had my iPod in it or something.

Yeah that's pretty weird. They were probably just trying to be a jerk. At my high school in the gym locker rooms people will go in and break into lockers and just steal shorts

When talking with the staff they kept on saying how rarely this happens. My guess is that it was probably some rising sophmore or something like that. I was even debating on replacing the shoes. So I'm not really out anything just... WTF mate?

When I was giving birth to my first child, someone stole my husband's coat and car keys from the hospital locker room while he was with me in the delivery room. Luckily my husband had parked the car a block away instead of in the emergency room parking spots. His key holder would have revealed that we owned a Volvo, and the car would have been easy to spot.
What was funny was that he wore my pink down coat home that night. A few days later when it was time to bring us home, he forgot to bring back my coat. That day he was wearing his ripped up down coat which should have been thrown out. He was lucky to have it for a spare jacket since he didn't want to wear my coat again. In all the fuss of preparing to bring clothes for our new baby home, he forgot to bring back my coat. I ended up wearing his torn coat and he had none to wear for the ride home.
We later told the Lamaze teacher that she should include combination locks on the hospital check list for expectant parents.
You never know what someone is going to steal. Recently, someone completely vandalized a baby's clothing collection bin at my temple set up as a bar mitzvah project. All one can do is hope that the person who stooped to that level was in real dire need of the bin's contents.

Combo locks are very easy to break into with a small piece of aluminum. Possibly a homeless person or someone with not much income who needed some cheap clothes.
Sucks though.

Well, it was at the university gym. So you have to have a vaild student ID to gain access to the building. My guess is that I might not have locked it quite all the way and someone took advantage of the situation and nabbed everything hopeing something valuable was in it. It just seems odd as a theft because who would take the deorderant? It wasn't in my shoes or anything just sitting there to the side, and also the lock.
I still think that someone who worked there cleared it out for some odd reason (or mistake) and missplaced the items in the back somewhere. I do remember an incident last year where someone had accidently locked their items in my assigned locker (guessing theirs was the vacant one next to mine) and the staff asked for the locker number and seriel on the back of the lock and removed the other person's items. I'm thinking something similar had happened by mistake. Absolutely positive I placed my items in the appropriate locker.
I'll probably get the phone call confirming that I won't be liable for the non-returns on Monday. With tomorrow being a holiday and the gym will be closed I have a feeling that the cogs in the machine will move a lot more slowly today.

I'd really rather not share it publicly. If you're really interested PM me. I don't want to be responsible for a new theif
Also don't under estimate the homeless. I used to work for a university police department, and if they have one talent in the world it's getting into locker rooms.

I will say thats very weird. I work at the gym at my school and we never have issues like that.
Hell, we have no issues with theft period. Between the track and weight room is sort of like a large cubbie hole unit. Just a wood structure, no doors, nothing. Just the holes and a large counter. People put their clothes into the holes, and everyone just leaves their keys, cellphones, and IDs on the counter. It's watched by no one and you cannot see the unit from the track or the weight room. Never heard of a single person getting something stolen either. I've left my own stuff there too and never thought twice about it.
Just a different atmosphere I guess.
edit: Kinda the same thing at the gym when I'm home too. Everyone leaves their phones on a divider between the track and the weight room. No issues.

We have had incidents where somebody goes through our hockey bags in the locker rooms while we are out playing on the ice. Car keys (along with the car), wallets, cell phones, you name it, it's been stolen. Now I take my wallet, phone, keys and leave it on the bench.
