SWOT Analysis

With the new hockey season in full swing, it’s time to make sure every player is aware of their playing potential during the season. Ask yourself, what needs to be done to improve my physical and mental skill sets throughout the season? How do I hold myself accountable for my actions during the hockey season?
The S.W.O.T. analysis is a great evaluation for players of all ages to do during the first few weeks of the season. This evaluation will make the individual understand what he or she needs to work on during the season. This unique assessment will show a player their strengths, expose their weakness and make them understand what they need to work on to ultimately become a better player during the course of the season.
The acronym is as follows. Write down these 4 letters, S. W. O. T. Below is a detailed description of what each letter represents and how a player should go about evaluating themselves.
S = Strengths: strong points a player excels at.
• Mental focus and desire for the game
• Size
• Communication
W = Weaknesses: areas in a players game that need to be focused on and corrected.
• Rebound control
• Puck handling
• Keeping my eye on the puck
O = Opportunity: areas where players can learn from and elevate their game by focusing on certain details.
• Getting extra shots after practice
• Gain respect from teammates
• Focusing on what I need to do each day before it happens
T = Threats: consequential roadblocks that can hinder a player’s success on and off the ice.
• Trying to keep a positive attitude all season long
• Overloading my mind and body with school, hockey and work
• Letting distractions away from the rink get in the way of my playing ability
I urge you to give this analysis a try. It will not only expose a player’s strengths and weakness but show a player what needs to be done in order for you to move to the next level. A player that hides from his or her fears and weaknesses will always know internally they never gave it 100%. Hold yourself accountable for your actions. Train hard and play harder. You only have one chance to make it, chase your dreams with no regrets! Good luck the rest of the season from all of us at Bandits Goalie School.
