Earlier Vortek Models
How do the earlier vortek models pre-vk5 compare as pro models and as pads in general.
Such as the VK2?

This is an unfair question to ask the current group of owners.
Until the VK5 the current owners had nothing to do with Vortek or previously Vortex. In reality this is a brand new company with a year worth of history.
But to answer your question there will be similar if not the same characteristics in quality, function, and most of all protection to what is currently offered.

A brand new company in some respects and not so much in others. The current lineup of pads (VK5 & VK7) were designed by the same guy that did the the VK1, VK2 and VK3 lines.
The VK2 was a great line of gear. I have several trappers and blockers from the line as well as a set of pads that were built specifically for inline so there are a few changes from the stock pad. They were not lacking in comparison to any other pro-level pad available.

So was the VK4 actually the last pad made before the re-org / re-intro / re-make of the Vortek brand? I believe Phil Maltese has a set of Vortek gear, but not sure if it's VK3 or VK4.
Truthfully, I wish Vortek offered the old style graphic on their new pads. I like the "V" better then the VK5's graphic for sure.
(And yes, I know graphics don't stop pucks....let's not get into that one again, please. )

We have actually been involved for three years. Over the last 8 months we have made changes that has enabled us to deliver gear on or very close to the promised dates.
In addition modifications have been made to the product that not only helps in production turnaround it has also enhanced functionality.
Vortek is finally out of the garage.

Yes I do MrMikeEMike. What a memory folks!!
My pads are VK2,3 or "?" because I can't make out the number. My gloves are VK 4's with slight modifications. They are need of some refurbishing.

Thanks for the info everybody. Vision, If you don't mind I was just wondering what you mods you made for inline specific pads? Is it just different materials on side for better sliding?

That is so true, I remember chatting with Marc while the change was in the process. Critics were pretty hard on Vortek here, but it wasn't discouraging the new ownership and look how things have changed now.
I just don't want to imagine the hours of work it took.

Phil's pads were/are VK3s while his gloves are VK4 models. Minor changes to the included a change in the placement of the hand on the blocker.
My VK2s were lightened internally, slightly, as I wasn't going to use them on ice and the five hole is cordura to aid in movement on sport court.

I had a pair of VK2's. Great pad. Very, very light. A good box pad if that is what you are looking. Top notch construction. I ended up selling them as I needed a more hybrid pad for my style of play.
