Thigh Wraps
Dose anyone use thigh wraps as opposed to thigh boards? I'm ordering VK7s and trying to decide weather or not to get them. Are they more comfortable? How do they feel under pants?

I'll be getting the thigh wraps with my VK7s as well. I have the boards on my current Itechs and I'm not a fan. Everyone I've seen post about the wraps seems to like them though...

I used to use wraps with my old pair of vaughn visions.
thigh boards are far superior protection in my opinion unless thigh wraps have gone through some huge evolution that I'm unaware of.

I completely disagree!
Many companys haven't offered thigh wraps until more recently, and in fact, many still don't it seems.
I find a 'good' thigh wrap wraps around your thigh and stays flush to it, moving where you move, thus protecting you leg better than a thigh board. From my experience, thigh boards flop around and gets stuck in your pants, thus, exposing the knee a lot more. I have gotten hit in the thigh and had it hurt with boards, but never with the wraps I had (maybe it was because they were NHL pro-returns?).
Currently, I have a +3 pad, so I am not even wearing wraps or boards and have not gotten dinged yet, knock on wood.

I got nailed on Monday w/ my 33+3 VK7s. Butterfly slide to the left for a one timer....apparently I did not get square to shooter.
Hurt like h*ll.

If you're wearing the boards correctly the boards don't get caught (at least not often enough to be relevant) and done even touch your body. If you get hit there you don't feel it at all because of simple physics. The boards don't touch you, they can't transfer the energy to you. Wraps on the other hand... With my thighboards I think they've got caught in my pants maybe 6 times the 4+ years I've had them.

o with wraps your movement is lightly better because they is less clutter. you can skate slightly better. go with the wraps you could always take them out and put thigh boards in

Yeah. I was leaning more toward wraps. I play juniors so i have to go by the new rules which means any type of padding has to stay under the pants.

From any I've tried, which is Itech and Vaughn, Thigh wraps are something that seems like a great idea, but doesn't work.
The reasons I say they don't work are:
Standing up, the centre of the knee is in the centre of the leg channel.
Butterflying, the centre of the knee is on the landing gear.
Thigh wraps as a matter of design want the centre of the knee to remain in the centre of the leg channel. They might work well on tightly strapped pads worn by a stand-up goalie.
Thighboards work because they are big and square and the knee freely moves behind them. The bad side is they are pretty similar to a + thighrise and sometimes pucks will sneak behind them.
If you don't want to wear, or aren't allowed to wear thighboards I think knee pads is the way to go. I do think knee pads attached to the pants make alot of sense, but not attached to the pad.
The only way I could see thigh wraps working is if they are basicaly thighboards with a curve to them and worn under the pants, but unless they allow for the knee to centre on the landing gear and still be protected, they won't work.
That is my opnion and experience anyway, obviously others dissagree.

If thigh wraps were available on my VK5's when I bought them, I would have gotten them. Instead I took the knee guard from my Bauer Supreme pants, put a couple holes in the strap...voila! Thigh wraps. Difference is that I laced them closer to the inside of the pads so when I do b-fly, they stay centered on my knee.

What about a wrap with an elastic attachment point to the pad and a secure leg attachment so it stays in place on the leg but can move from the pad?

Unlike most other goalies, I actually wear my pads relatively tight, while still playing a hybrid style. I find it easier move are around the net and it helps me skate faster. Thanks for you advice.

I ordered my VK7s with no board or wraps, will it still come with the attachment tab? I have some lace-in thigh guards that I might put on there to try out...
